This year, I spent the holidays visiting my mom in Nova Scotia, and the timing couldn’t have been better. During my stay, we experienced two snowstorms that transformed Annapolis County into a winter wonderland. The snow encouraged us to slow down, and we spent much of our time reading, relaxing, and enjoying delicious food. We also made it a point to venture outdoors every day, either running or hiking along the nearby trails.
The woods became still with their thick blanket of snow. The trees protected us from the wind, and the only sounds were the crunch of snow under our boots and the occasional creak of the trees. These tranquil hikes through the snow-covered woods were among the most memorable moments of my visit.
Another highlight of the trip was getting to know Lulu, my mom’s dog. Lulu quickly decided that I was her new best friend, and her happy yet calm energy brought so much joy to my mom and I. She was a very dedicated and loving companion throughout my stay.
On Christmas Day, a friend of my mom’s invited us for a small winter hike. It was a perfect day to be outside, and we followed the creek along Upper Clements Trail while chatting about our thoughts on the upcoming year.
As always, the trip felt far too short, and before I knew it, it was time to return home. I’m deeply grateful for the peaceful time spent with my mom and the chance to explore a bit of Western Nova Scotia during such a beautiful season.
